I stood, looking hopefully at a fluffy white cloud floating ominously in the clear blue sky. 'Please....Please send someone....' I hadn't come across another dog in a month or so, and I felt as though I was beginning to become crazy from the solitude. Early on in life it seemed as though I was never alone. Until the day that I was dropped off in a city, even in that city I met other dogs. But that city was miles away. And now I was walking on a great road along the ocean.
I sat down for a moment once again on the dusty roadside, my dark chasms watching seagulls swoop and dive through the air above the ocean. I pulled my body up with hind legs, slowly moving one paw ahead of the other as I made my way to the center of the road, where I paused. The heat of the black asphalt rose into my paws, making them burn. It was strange...A car hadn't come by in quite some time, when usually one came at least every few minutes.
That was I thought I heard the rumbling of what I figured was a car's heart. Twitching my short golden acoustics to listen more closely. I thought I heard the sound fade and disappear all together, so I relaxed and went back to my thoughts. Just then the sound grew loud in an amazingly short amount of time and before I knew it a car spun around the corner and started to charge toward me. For a millisecond of time I stood in pear shock just staring at the approaching vehicle, until I came to my senses.
Letting out a loud yelp, I jolted off the road and to the roadside closest to the ocean. My heart was beating out of my chest. But, being the brute I am, I immediately tried to keep my cool on the outside and make it appear I wasn't afraid.
Soon enough though, I was out of the immediate shock and not even scared on the inside. I took a deep breath of the salty air, and stood looking over the edge of the hill the road stand on. A cool breeze ruffled my short golden and white fur as I gazed at the blue ocean.
That is where I had to go. But the way down here was dangerous and there was no beach below. 'If only I could find a way to the beach...'
