Character Name: Spirit
Gender: Female
Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
Age: Three years

Appearance: Spirit has a blue-grey pelt with beautiful blue eyes that show warmth and simplicity. On her chest lies a five inch scar from puppy-hood when her master had abused her intentionally. There are also many other scars and bruises along her body from her master recklessly abusing and hurting her.
Personality: Spirit lives up to her name. With a huge heart of gold, she is very generous and caring when it comes to others. She is always willing to help out other strays by giving them a share of some food she may have caught or that may have been given to her by strangers. She is a very respectful dog, too. She believes that all dogs are good inside even when they might be mean and evil most of the time. She also believes that she should follow her motto she has given herself: "Inner Strength and Beauty". With strength inside and out, she can overcome anything; with beauty on the inside and out, she can show people what she's made of. Spirit is a one-of-a-kind dog that never backs down from her name and she always will be there for a friend in need.
History: Spirit was brought up in a very cruel world with a harsh enviorment. With a very mean master that always would abuse her when she did one simple thing he hated, Spirit never thought she would live a good life like every dog should. Her master would persistently beat her, cut her, kick, push around, and even at one point try to drown poor Spirit. He also would even force her to breed with her own father so money could be made! But all of this took a toll on her, and she forced herself to be locked away from the world. She would always stay locked up in a corner, never making eye contact with her family or humans. Sometimes bystanders would throw things at her just because they were friends with her master and he would tell them how stubborn and reckless she was. Spirit's master never knew this would catch up to him the future, though. At one year of age, Spirit tried to run away. But at the sight of her trying to escape, Spirit's master slashed her across the chest with a long roll of barbed wire. A pedestrian had seen this foul act, and called the police. Soon enough, they took him away and sent him to life in prison without parole for the terrible crime of abuse to animals. Now Spirit had her chance. She got the chance to run free as a stray, never to be seen in her master's property ever again. Now three years of age, she lives a free life with no worries as a stray dog.
Relations: There aren't any main relations at this time; her family is at an animal adoption center; her puppies are at this location with her family also. All of them are alive, but Spirit does not keep in touch with them.

Spirit quickly trotted down the road, her paws dusty from the dirt that had begun to evaporate from the hot sun that was beating down on her blue-grey pelt. She had waited for this day so long..she was ecstatic that she was now an official stray, able to go wherever she pleased. She now just needed to find a safe and comfortable place to call her own. Far off into the distance, maybe a mile away, Spirit caught a short glimpse of what looked like a large stray dog sanctuary. There where no humans, just dogs. She briskly walked to the unfamiliar spot, just waiting to see what she could find..and there they were: At least a hundred dogs lacking collars that were laying down across the healthy green grass, some sleeping, some communicating with others, some grooming their fur. But there was one that stood out. He was a very handsome and majestic male Lhasa Apso, and he looked as if he were an Alpha of this pack, if this made things any clearer.
Spirit took step after step after step, making sure she was cautious of her surroundings. She finally made it over the the vast lawn of dogs, and sat right next to the Lhasa Apso. Looking over at him, he seemed to be fixated at one thing : the building that was close by. She didn't know what wonders this building held, but was determined to find out. She maneuvered her way through the pack, going to the two large doors in the front of the building. The Lhasa Apso had followed her, looking into her eyes as if she had did a bad deed. He ushered her over to a spot that no other dog inhabited. They then both went into a large den, Spirit following the male dog throughout the winding trail inside. They then made it to a clearing, with had a rusty wooden door centered in the middle of the rocky cave wall. The Lhasa Apso then sat in front of the door, smiling grimly. He then let out a large howl that bounced off each wall of the cave, going out into the lawn in which the other dogs were on. Confused and thingy-eyed, Spirit lay down in an opposite corner away from this weird and possibly troubling dog. She then softly placed her dark nose in between her two large paws and curled up, eventually falling asleep. After that, everything was black for the next few hours.
Four hours had passed, and Spirit was still in the large cave she had entered a while before. The Lhasa Apso was towering above her, looking down into her lonely and soft eyes. He then went through the door. In the next few seconds he came back again, only this time he had two large ribs in his mouth. He softly lay on down in front of Spirit, then he curled up beside her and began to eat his. Still baffled by this weird encounter and this dog's rare welcoming, she ate the rib, eating it clean to the bone before chomping down on the bone itself.
The cave now was very silent, and the Lhasa Apso now was ready to speak : "Hello my sweet." his baritone voice echoed off the cave walls. "I'm sure you are very confused by my welcoming present and the way I encountered you, but now 'tis the time for your name, my dear friend." Spirit looked into the dog's eyes.
"My name? 'Tis Spirit. I've come very far to this here spot."
"I see. Well..my name is Vincent. Just call me Vince, if you'd like. Where did a beautiful girl like you come from?"
"From my master's home. I've left him; he abused me terribly."
Vince examined Spirit's lanky body. "I see. You have many scars and bruises. I'm terribly sorry about that."
"It is just fine, Vince."
The two dogs had a short moment of silence before Vince signaled Spirit to leave the cave with him. They then both crossed the roadway, Spirit walking in step with Vince.
"I never thought this life would be so exciting...this is the beginning of a wonderful friendship."
